Creating Value & Driving Impact

 

The Office for Technology Tranfer and Commercialization (OTTC) provides a continuum of programs to accelerate innovations from lab to commercialization including:

 

  • MTRAC A state program that provides funds to support translational research with high commercial potential has contributed approximately 2.5 million dollars in awards over the last 10 years. Wayne State University hosts the MTRAC Advanced Computing hub for the state program.

  • Mentors in Residence (MiR) program supplies experienced entrepreneurs with specialized industry and venture expertise to assist the faculty and Tech Comm in the creation of high growth potential start-ups.

  • Seminar Series guest speakers from industry, with extensive entrepreneurial experience share, some of their wisdom related to bringing innovative technologies to market.

  • WSU researchers have received over 1million dollars in funding (jointly from the State of Michigan and the Office for Technology Transfer and Commercialization) to develop the feasibility studies necessary for licensing, industry partnerships and start-up opportunities.

  • Provided >2,000 hours of innovation support & mentoring to WSU faculty, staff, students.

  • Expanded our invention disclosure process to include ideas, as well as later stage inventions from faculty, staff AND students.

  • Expanded WSU Innovation Studio designed to help students with innovation and entrepreneurship by providing space for brainstorming and collaboration in addition to one-on-one coaching, educational programming and mentorship opportunities.  (Find Innovation Studio Virtual Friday Schedule: https://innovate.wayne.edu/resources)

  • Successfully launched an Innovation Sustainability Pitch Competition open to students from Wayne State University, Lawrence Tech and the University of Detroit Mercy in early February 2022 sponsored by OTTC with funding support from the Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation.
